Manners Composite Stocks - Brand Highlight

Posted by Red Hawk Rifles on Aug 5th 2024

Stock options don’t just apply to the stock market, but to the precision rifle market as well. Today we are going to be highlighting Manners Composite Stocks. Specifically two of their models: the Long Range Hunter and the Pro Hunter.

These are both great options with some minor differences and if you are building a new lightweight rifle, you really should consider using a composite stock.

Manners Composite Stocks Overview

Manners makes a lot of great composite stocks, but before we dive into the two models we’re focusing on today, let’s have a little refresher on why we might choose a composite stock.

Composite Stock Recap

Composite stocks are the logical progression from wood stocks on hunting and precision rifles. Composite stocks offer similar or greater durability than wood while being less affected by the environment. This means there won’t be any notable shifts in accuracy due to humidity, temperature, etc.

Composite stocks using carbon fiber also have greater weight savings while maintaining good rigidity and durability in the same space as traditional wooden stocks. This allows you to have an altogether lighter rifle or trade off that weight to a different part of the system for specific benefits (heavier barrels, actions, optics).

Manners’ Long Range Hunter

If you are looking to get everything you can out of a hunting stock, the Manners Composite Stocks Long Range Hunter should be near the top of your list. This stock features a hybrid Manners adjustable cheek spacer which allows you to adjust the comb height for a consistent mounting of the rifle.

This is particularly beneficial for your high powered scopes as they tend to sit higher on the gun because of the ranges they are going to be used at. This adds comfort and repeatability to using the scope, taking those factors away from the variables you have to worry about while shooting.

The 3.5 inch ARCA rail will allow you to mount the rifle on a tripod to steady your shots at close and long range. The closer you are to 1000 yards and beyond, the more stability you need to ensure your round goes where you want it to.

The rail is at the perfect balance point of the rifle (just in front of the magazine) to help lock the rifle into the tripod without it tipping forward or backwards. This makes it easier for the tripod to be fully seated in whatever environment you may find yourself in.

Manners’ Pro Hunter

The Pro hunter is slightly different from the Long Range Hunter. It features many of the slicked down aspects of older hunting stocks and does not have an adjustable comb. This makes it less modular but leaner out in the field.

The Manners Composite Stocks Pro is the type of stock you choose when you plan on spending a lot of time on foot tracking and hunting. Roughly 5 to 7 ounces lighter than the Long Range Hunter, the Pro is set up with only the necessary aspects of a hunting rifle.

It does feature an ARCA rail section and a bipod mount to help improve stability and accuracy with either a tripod or bipod. Beyond that, there is very little to go wrong with this stock. It also has a 1 inch Pachmayr Decelerator Pad which is going to be very useful if you use a magnum load, which the stock is rated for.

The Pro is a full wraparound, molded carbon fiber shell and has a full wrap around grip and molded in bolt notch. The finish is also molded in which means you don’t have to worry about repainting your rifle, it’s just that color and that same texture.

Conclusion

Both of these stocks are a great addition to your rifle build especially with the introduction of their mini chassis system. The mini chassis system allows you to mount specific action easily in the stock and consistently free float barrels on them. While only the gen 1 features both long and short actions, Manners has a gen 2 version as well as BDL and Tikka versions.

The mini chassis allows you to use AICS pattern magazines while the Long Range Hunter and Pro Hunter create a stable platform to house your actions. Check out our Manners stocks today before they’re all gone
