Product Spotlight: Zeiss LRP S3
Today’s product spotlight is the Zeiss LRP S3 series of scopes. These scopes offer a number of features that make them a great option for long range shooting and other precision rifle tasks.
Let’s start off with the specifications
Specifications
The LRP S3 series features two scopes with shared features, the S3 4-25x50 and the S3 6-36x56 scope. The major difference between the two scopes is found in their physical dimensions and magnifications.
Scope Features
The Zeiss LRP S3 series has a shared list of features, which makes them easier to choose between because you’ll be focusing mostly on the magnification and field of view.
Recoil/Impact Resistant
The LS3 are designed to resist high levels of shock in order for them to withstand magnum loadings and other high recoil. This is done by subjecting the scope to 1,500 g-force shocks through multiple cycles to ensure the scope’s integrity.
External Locking turrets
Like most other quality long range scopes, the LRP S3 has locking turrets. This helps ensure that your scope doesn’t become un-zeroed by environmental factors like drops or brushing against your equipment.
The Zeiss LRP S3 also features a ballistic stop that ensures a return to zero while adjusting the windage or elevation of the scope.
Extra Low Dispersion Glass/T-Star (T*) Six Layer Coating
Zeiss’s Extra Low Dispersion (ED) glass helps make the scope be extremely clear. With up to 90% light transmission, the scope’s lenses are coated with Zeiss’s T* coating. This coating helps improve optical brightness for clearer images with better contrast at distance.
Magnified optics tend to wash out images within the scope over long distances. The T* coating helps mitigate this issue to allow you to better range and identify targets.
ZF-MRi/ZF-MOAi Reticle
These scopes come in two major varieties. One using Zeiss milliradian and the other uses their MOA scale. Both are “tree” style reticles with multiple holdover points and windage holds. This allows for fine tuning your long range shots without dialing in.
Daylight Visible Illuminated Reticle
Daylight illumination can help you pick up the center of the reticle during times where light might be overabundant. A bright day can wash out your reticle especially on first focal plane scopes. Illumination can help manage this, especially on lower magnifications, by making it easier for your eye to pick up the reticle’s center.
LotuTec®
The LRP S3 lenses have an additional coating applied to them to help repel dirt and water. This makes it easier to keep your lenses clean and clear. Dirt and grime tend to find lenses, anything that makes maintenance easier is beneficial.
High Level Elevation Adjustment
Both scopes feature more elevation adjustments than other scopes in their magnification categories. The 4-25x50 has an adjustment of 160 MOA or 46.5 MRAD while the 6-36x56 has slightly less adjustment with 110 MOA or 32 MRAD adjustments in total.
This is extremely helpful at those distances when your bullet drops start being measured in feet rather than inches, depending on the load.
Conclusion
Be sure you know what you need in a scope before selecting one. Not every scope is good for every application. If you are interested in the LRP S3 line we have a number of options available.
