Short action for PRS competition with guaranteed headspace and AW magazine compatibility

The Defiance Deviant COMP is a short-action rifle receiver that Defiance builds for PRS competition. The receiver is one piece of pre-hardened 416 stainless with an integral scope rail and recoil lug. The bolt is one-piece 4340 chrome moly machined to Defiance's guarantee of headspace to +/- .001 inch, and it arrives with a nitride finish at no additional cost. Made to order right or left hand, with three bolt faces for caliber families from .223 Rem through .300 Win Mag.

Built for PRS with oversized knob and swept handle

An oversized competition bolt knob and a swept legacy bolt handle that Defiance says allows clearance with your rifle scope.

AW magazine cut feeds both AW and AICS patterns

Defiance lists the magazine cut as compatible with both AW and AICS pattern magazines.

Headspace guaranteed to +/- .001 inch

The bolt is one piece of 4340 chrome moly, and Defiance guarantees headspace to +/- .001 inch. Defiance states that pre-fit barrels with a 1.0625 inch x 16 TPI tenon work on it, with final fit-up by a gunsmith.

Integral 20 MOA rail and recoil lug

Both are machined into the receiver body rather than attached to it.

Three bolt faces cover .223 Rem through .300 Win Mag

Bolt faces of .390 inch (.223 Rem), .480 inch (standard .308 style) and .550 inch (MAG, SAUM and PRC cartridges) are offered; order the face for the cartridge you will chamber.

Short action only. The Deviant COMP is made in short action for PRS competition. It will not work in medium or long action inlets, and some magnum cartridges require a long action.

Fitting it and the fine print

Which bolt face do I order?

Pick the bolt face by the case head of the cartridge you will chamber:

  • .390 inch: .223 Rem.
  • .480 inch: standard .308 style bolt face, for .308 Win and cartridges built on its case head.
  • .550 inch: .300 WM, RUM, PRC and SAUM cartridges.

Can I run both AW and AICS magazines?

Yes. The Deviant COMP's AW magazine cut is compatible with both AW and AICS pattern magazines, so you can use either pattern without changing the action.

Can this ship to my door?

No. The Deviant COMP is a firearm receiver and Red Hawk Rifles transfers it only to a holder of a valid Federal Firearms License. You pick the FFL dealer who will receive it, forward a copy of their license to Red Hawk Rifles after ordering, and complete the transfer at their counter. Dealers usually charge a transfer fee; that fee, and compliance with local, state and federal law, are between you and your dealer.
