Flush short action magazine for the Hawkins Hunter DBM
The Hawkins Precision Hunter short action magazine is a flush-fit detachable magazine for the Hawkins Hunter DBM bottom metal. It is machined from one piece of billet aluminum and cut for a specific cartridge family, so 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Win and 6.5 PRC run at full length instead of being seated short. It fits the Hunter DBM short action only, not a standard M5 or AICS pattern bottom metal with a mag well.
Up to 2.980" internal length
The Extended and Magnum versions give about 2.980" for long bullets in 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Win and 6.5 PRC. The Standard version is about 2.880", and the .223 Rem and 6 ARC versions are about 2.500".
3 to 5 rounds
Standard and Extended hold 4, the Magnum holds 3, the .223 Rem holds 5 and the 6 ARC/6.5 Grendel holds 4.
One piece of billet aluminum
Machined from a single piece of billet aluminum. Hawkins lists 2.6 oz for the Standard and Magnum versions.
Nothing to snag
The flush body sits level with the Hunter DBM instead of below the stock, so it clears branches and brush and, per Hawkins, loads and unloads quickly.
Five cartridge families
Standard, Standard Extended, Magnum, 6 ARC/6.5 Grendel and .223 Rem, each a separate magazine. Order by cartridge and by the length your action feeds, not by action alone.

The 2.980" versions may need feed ramp work in a Remington 700. Hawkins states that the Extended and Magnum magazines have no binder plate, so a factory Remington 700 may need machine work below the feed ramp to keep bullets from catching. Hawkins says this is mostly Remington 700s and not custom actions. The Standard 2.880" version does not carry this note.

Which version do I order?
Match the magazine to the cartridge, then to the length your action will feed.
- Standard (about 2.880"): .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor at factory length. 4 rounds. Hawkins states it will not work with 22-250.
- Standard Extended (about 2.980"): the same cartridges with long bullets seated out. 4 rounds. See the feed ramp note.
- Magnum (about 2.980"): 6.5 PRC and, per Hawkins, the SAUM family. 3 rounds. Our listing has also carried .300 WSM under this version. See the feed ramp note.
- 6 ARC/6.5 Grendel (about 2.500"): 4 rounds.
- .223 Rem (about 2.500"): 5 rounds.
Does it fit my bottom metal?
Only the Hawkins Hunter DBM in short action. It is a flush magazine built around that unit, so it does not fit a standard M5 or AICS pattern bottom metal with a mag well, and it does not fit the Medium/XM+, Medium 3.500" or long action Hunter DBMs, which each take their own magazine length. Hawkins has said it may be compatible with other short action flush-fit bottom metals for Remington 700 pattern actions; that is a may, not a will. For the Tikka short action Hunter DBM, Hawkins specifies Rev C or higher Hunter magazines in the Extended and Magnum versions; ask through Get Help before ordering for a Tikka so the revision can be confirmed.
Is this an AICS magazine?
No. The Hunter DBM short action accepts either this flush Hawkins magazine or an AICS pattern 5 or 10 round .308 magazine, per Hawkins. This magazine sits flush with the bottom metal instead of hanging below it, and the Extended and Magnum versions give about 2.980" of internal length. It will not work in an M5 or AICS pattern bottom metal that is not flush-mount.
Do I need a gunsmith?
Only for the 2.980" versions in a factory Remington 700, and only if bullets catch below the feed ramp. Hawkins states these magazines have no binder plate and the action may need machine work to feed them; custom actions mostly do not. The Standard 2.880", 6 ARC and .223 Rem versions carry no such note.
