Flush 3.770" long action magazine for the Hawkins Hunter DBM

The Hawkins Precision Hunter long action magazine is a flush-fit 3.770" detachable magazine for the Hawkins Hunter DBM bottom metal. It is machined from one piece of billet aluminum and cut for a specific cartridge family, so 300 PRC, 28 Nosler, 300 Norma and 338 Lapua run at full length instead of being seated short. It fits the Hunter DBM long action only, not a standard M5 or AICS pattern bottom metal.

3.770" internal length

Long enough to run 300 PRC, 28 Nosler and 338 Lapua at full cartridge overall length, inside a magazine that sits flush with the stock instead of hanging below it.

3 rounds, 4 in Standard

Every magnum version holds 3. The Standard version for 280 AI and 30-06 holds 4.

One piece of billet aluminum

Machined from a single piece of billet aluminum. Hawkins lists 3.2 oz for the 300 PRC/28 Nosler magazine and 3.8 oz for the 300 Norma/338 Lapua.

Nothing to snag

The flush body sits level with the Hunter DBM instead of below the stock, so it clears branches and brush and, per Hawkins, loads and unloads quickly.

Five cartridge families

Magnum, Belted Magnum, 300 NM/338 LM, Standard and 284 Win, each a separate magazine. Belted cases such as 300 Win Mag have their own version; order by cartridge, not by action.

Hawkins states that long action Hunter DBMs need gunsmithing in factory-length Remington 700 actions and Zermatt Origins to clear this magazine's 3.770" cartridge overall length. The magazine itself fits only the Hawkins Hunter DBM long action; it will not go into a standard M5 or AICS pattern bottom metal.

Fitting it and the fine print

Which version do I order?

Match the magazine to the cartridge. All five are the same 3.770" length; Hawkins makes each one for its cartridge family.

  • Magnum: beltless magnums such as 300 PRC and 28 Nosler. 3 rounds.
  • Belted Magnum: belted cases such as 300 Win Mag and 300 Weatherby. 3 rounds.
  • 300 NM/338 LM: 300 Norma Mag and 338 Lapua Mag. 3 rounds. Hawkins has noted this magazine needs a .750" bolt; confirm your action's bolt diameter before ordering.
  • Standard: 280 Ackley Improved and 30-06. 4 rounds.
  • 284 Win: 284 Win and 6.5-284. 3 rounds.

Does it fit my bottom metal?

Only the Hawkins Hunter DBM in long action. It is a flush magazine built around that unit, so it does not fit a standard M5 or AICS pattern bottom metal, and it does not fit the short action, Medium/XM+ or Medium 3.500" Hunter DBMs, which each take their own magazine length. The reverse is also true: the Hunter DBM long action takes these magazines and will not work with CIP length AICS, MDT or Accurate magazines.

Do I need a gunsmith?

The gunsmithing Hawkins describes is on the action, for the bottom metal, not on the magazine. Hawkins states that the long action Hunter DBM needs gunsmithing in a factory-length Remington 700 action and in the Zermatt Origin to accommodate the 3.770" magazine cartridge overall length. The magazine itself is not modified.
