A PXT stainless steel Competition prefit for your Impact Precision action
This Proof Research prefit is a 26" stainless steel Competition contour barrel with PXT (PROOF Exponential Twist) rifling, made for Impact Precision 737R and NBK short actions. It arrives chambered and threaded, with a 5/8-24 threaded muzzle, ready to torque onto your action and headspace check with gauges. Available in 9 chamberings from 223 Rem to 308 Win. Choose your caliber, then the finish length.
Ready to install
Proof's prefits are chambered and threaded for a simple install with few specialized tools: torque the barrel on with the proper action wrench and torque setting, double check headspace with proper gauges, and head to the range.
PXT rifling
PXT starts the bullet on a very gradual twist and accelerates it through the bore. Proof says this cuts the initial rifling lead angle by about 95 to 98% and lowers bullet engraving force by about 30%, for less pressure spike, less throat erosion and less felt torque.
30 to 100% longer barrel life
In Proof's controlled testing, PXT barrels showed a 30 to 100% increase in barrel life before measurable accuracy loss. Proof also reports 20 to 50% smaller groups across multiple ammunition types and lots.
Competition contour in steel
A heavy 26" Competition profile in traditional steel, which Proof cites for excellent erosion wear and corrosion resistance and the strength to handle high chamber pressures. Built for benchrest, F-class and PRS-style rifles where weight helps. These run 7 lb 5 oz to 7 lb 5 oz by Proof's published figures.

Installing it and the fine print
What do I need to install it?
An action wrench for your Impact Precision action, a barrel vise, a torque wrench set to the action maker's spec, and go/no-go headspace gauges for your chambering. Always confirm headspace before firing.
Does the twist change by caliber?
Yes. Each chambering comes in one PXT twist, shown next to the caliber. PXT starts slower at the breech and accelerates through the bore; the listed twist is Proof's designation for the barrel.
Will the engraving line up with my stock?
Not guaranteed. Proof notes that, due to variance in actions, it does not guarantee the timing and alignment of the barrel engraving to your stock line.
