Overview

An 8x zoom in a 12-inch scope with ZeroStop and calibrated reticle

The Nightforce NX8 2.5-20x50 F2 is a demo unit in like-new condition, a second focal plane riflescope for hunting and precision shooting. At 20x you reach out to distant targets with clarity; at 2.5x you stay comfortable with close or moving shots. That range in one scope, with ED optical glass giving clarity at every step, covers most hunting and competition situations. The MOAR-CF2 reticle is marked with 1 MOA subtensions calibrated at 20x for accurate holds and dialing. ZeroStop, DigIllum illumination and side parallax are standard, all packed into just 12.1 inches and under 29 ounces.

2.5-20x in 12.1 inches

An 8x zoom over a 50 mm objective, delivering exit pupils from 5.9 mm at 2.5x down to 2.5 mm at 20x and a field of view from 36.7 ft to 6.1 ft at 100 yards. Under 29 ounces keeps the scope from dominating rifle balance.

MOAR-CF2 with calibrated reticle

A floating centre dot with alternating 1 MOA subtensions and major labels every 5 MOA. The reticle is calibrated at 20x magnification for accurate holds and elevation dials without re-calculating at your primary shooting power.

Second focal plane

The reticle keeps the same apparent size as you change power, so its MOA marks read true only at the magnification they are calibrated for, 20x on the MOAR-CF2. At other powers the marks do not match their labels; dial instead.

ZeroStop and DigIllum

Dial up to a distance and return to a hard mechanical zero. Illumination is digital instead of a rheostat, so the low settings are genuinely low for dawn, dusk and night use.

Side parallax from 11 yards to infinity

Set parallax on the side turret rather than through the eyepiece, freeing the focus ring for quick adjustment between near and distant targets.

Detail

Fitting it and the fine print

What is the difference between second focal plane and first?

In a second focal plane (F2) scope the reticle sits behind the erector, so it keeps the same apparent size while the image changes with magnification. Its marks therefore measure true only at the calibrated power; the MOAR-CF2 is calibrated at 20x. In a first focal plane (F1) scope the reticle scales with the image, so holds are valid at any power. Choose F2 for a reticle that stays fine and visible at low power and for a rifle you dial rather than hold with; choose F1 if you hold with the reticle across many magnifications.

What does the MOAR-CF2 reticle do?

The MOAR-CF2 has a floating centre dot with alternating 1 MOA subtensions, major labels every 5 MOA, and marks calibrated for 20x magnification. This lets you hold wind and elevation holds at 20x with precision. The centre dot is floating, so you have an exact aiming point at any power. At magnifications other than 20x, use your elevation turret to dial rather than trying to estimate with the reticle marks.

Can I dial elevation or do I hold over with the reticle?

You can do both. The NX8 has a multi-turn elevation turret with ZeroStop, so you can dial elevation for any distance and return to your zero. The MOAR-CF2 reticle has over 80 MOA of visible holdover marks below the centre for situations where you do not have time to dial or want to shoot multiple targets at different distances without re-zeroing.

What is DigIllum?

DigIllum is Nightforce's digital illumination system. Instead of a variable rheostat, you step through discrete brightness levels, which keeps the low settings genuinely low for hunting and night use without the wash-out that rheostats often produce at their minimum.
