Overview

Large magnum receiver with .750 inch bolt for .416 Rigby and .338 Lapua Magnum

The Stiller TAC 338 is a rifle receiver designed for centerfire cartridges with a .585 inch rim diameter, including the .416 Rigby, .338 Lapua Magnum and .378 Weatherby family. The receiver is 416 stainless hardened to 42 Rockwell and measures 9.165 inches long with a 1.40 inch diameter. The bolt is .750 inch diameter, one piece of chrome molly hardened to 42 Rockwell, with a proprietary double-layer coating. It uses a straight bolt handle with a threaded bolt knob and a 90 degree bolt throw. Center feed box magazines only; the TAC 338 has no feed lips.

.750 inch diameter bolt for large magnum cartridges

The oversized bolt diameter is required for cartridges with a .585 inch rim diameter. The receiver is 0.050 inch larger in diameter and 0.465 inch longer than the standard TAC action to accommodate this bolt.

Center feed box magazines only

The TAC 338 has no feed lips and is designed exclusively for center feed box magazines, not AICS or other detachable magazine patterns.

416 stainless hardened to 42 Rockwell

The one-piece receiver is 416 stainless steel hardened to 42 Rockwell.

Proprietary bolt coating makes it smooth and easy to cycle

The one-piece chrome molly bolt has a proprietary double-layer coating. Fluted on the top and sides only, not the bottom, so flutes will not interfere with magazine lips.

Straight bolt handle with threaded knob

The bolt handle is straight, and the knob is threaded so it can be swapped with aftermarket knobs by the user or a gunsmith. It comes standard with a small TAC knob.

Detail

Fitting it and the fine print

What cartridges does the TAC 338 work with?

The TAC 338 is designed for centerfire cartridges with a .585 inch rim diameter, including the .416 Rigby, .338 Lapua Magnum and .378 Weatherby family. The oversized .750 inch bolt diameter is necessary for these large magnum cartridges.

Can I use AICS or AW magazines?

No. The TAC 338 uses center feed box magazines only and has no feed lips. It will not work with AICS, AW or any other detachable magazine pattern.

Can this ship to my door?

No. The TAC 338 is a firearm receiver and Red Hawk Rifles transfers it only to a holder of a valid Federal Firearms License. You pick the FFL dealer who will receive it, forward a copy of their license to Red Hawk Rifles after ordering, and complete the transfer at their counter. Dealers usually charge a transfer fee; that fee, and compliance with local, state and federal law, are between you and your dealer.
