Overview
A stainless steel custom action on a Remington 700 footprint
The Zermatt Arms Origin is a short or long action with a swept bolt handle, controlled round feed and an enclosed mechanical ejector. It drops into Remington 700 stocks and chassis and uses the same trigger configuration. The action is stainless steel and weighs 31 ounces short action, 33 ounces long action, and ships with a 20 MOA pinned rail. It comes in three bolt faces: .223, Standard and Magnum, all compatible with AICS and Remington 700 feed lip magazines.
Stainless steel, 31 oz short action
The receiver is stainless steel, finished with black nitride on the body and bolt, DLC on the bolt head. Short action weighs 31 ounces complete with the rail; long action weighs 33 ounces.
Controlled round feed and enclosed ejector
A controlled-round-feed bolt with an enclosed mechanical ejector keeps the cycle smooth and feeding reliable. The ejector is not exposed.
20 MOA pinned rail integral to the receiver
The rail is machined into the receiver and pinned to the top surface. It does not require mounting screws and stays put.
Remington 700 footprint and trigger pattern
The receiver sits on a Remington 700 footprint and uses the Remington 700 trigger configuration, so it drops into the vast majority of production stocks and chassis already on the market.
Three bolt faces cover .223 through Magnum
The .223 face fits rounds like .223 Remington and 7.62x39. Standard covers .308 Winchester and similar. Magnum covers .300 Winchester Magnum, .338 Lapua and calibers in that class.
Floating bolt heads let you change calibers
Bolt heads are interchangeable, so you can swap them to match a different barrel and reconfigure the action from one caliber family to another without gunsmith work.

Fitment
Will it work with your build?
Works with
- Remington 700 short or long action stocks and chassis
- AICS and Remington 700 feed lip magazines
- CIP long action magazines (long action only)
- Standard Remington 700 trigger housings
- Remington 700 scope bases and rings
Will not work with
- AW pattern magazines
- Actions requiring an integral recoil lug (external lug required)
- Savage-pattern actions or components
No integral recoil lug. Zermatt's comparison table lists the Origin without an integral recoil lug, so a separate lug is fitted between barrel and receiver when the barrel goes on. Order it with the barrel work, not as an afterthought.
Detail
Fitting it and the fine print
Which bolt face do I need?
- .223 face: .223 Remington, 7.62x39 and similar small rifle calibers.
- Standard face: .308 Winchester, .243 Winchester, .260 Remington, 6.5 Creedmoor and standard rifle calibers.
- Magnum face: .300 Winchester Magnum, .338 Lapua Magnum and large magnum calibers.
Can I swap calibers with different barrels?
Yes. The Origin has floating, interchangeable bolt heads, so you can change the head to match a new barrel. You will need the corresponding bolt head for the caliber family you are moving to.
What recoil lug do I need?
The Origin does not have an integral recoil lug built into the receiver. You must supply and install a separate external steel recoil lug, typically mounted under the barrel where it meets the receiver. Contact Zermatt Arms or your gunsmith for the lug specifications and installation.
