Overview

A 3.2 lb folding magnesium chassis built around a night vision bridge

The MDT DRT Chassis System is a folding magnesium chassis for Remington 700 short action rifles and clones, built for clip-on thermal and night vision hunting. Its full-length 20 MOA NV bridge holds the clip-on in line with the scope, and the complete system with buttstock and carbon fiber grip weighs 3.2 lb. It comes in black or FDE.

3.2 lb complete

Chassis, folding buttstock, NV bridge and carbon fiber grip together weigh 3.2 lb (51.2 oz). Magnesium carries the body and buttstock, aluminum the NV bridge and ARCA rail, and titanium the LOP pins, LOP clamp and action screws.

20 MOA NV bridge

The skeletonized bridge runs the length of the forend and holds a clip-on thermal or night vision unit on the same plane as the scope. MDT specifies a 20 MOA scope base and rings of at least 1.5" so the optic clears the bridge.

Folds over the bolt

The integrated friction folder has adjustable tension and locks solid for the shot. Folded, the buttstock covers the bolt handle, so the rifle packs shorter with nothing sticking out.

Adjusts to the shooter

Length of pull runs 12" to 14.25" on the included adjustment knob, the cheek riser has 1.15" of height, and the textured carbon fiber vertical grip and M-LOK thumb shelf both reposition to suit your hand.

A lane for every mount

A bolted-on ARCA rail with ARCALOCK and RRS Lock compatibility takes the tripod or bipod, M-LOK slots run along the forend, and an offset Picatinny rail keeps a rangefinder or IR laser clear of the ARCA interface.

Rigid forend, low bore axis

The magnesium forend, aluminum ARCA rail and NV bridge brace each other against the flex that shifts point of impact off a bipod, tripod or bag, and the low bore axis keeps the sight picture steadier through recoil.

Fitment

Will it work with your build?

Works with

  • Remington 700 short action and Remington 700 footprint clones, right hand
  • Factory Remington 700 short actions: ADL, BDL, SPS, 5R, LTR, Police, Sendero, Tactical, Varmint, VTR, XCR, 40X and M40
  • Custom and semi-custom short actions on MDT's list, including Bergara B-14 and Premier, Bighorn Origin, TL2 and TL3, Christensen Arms, Curtis Custom, Defiance, Impact Precision 737R, 777R and NBK, Kelbly, Lone Peak Fuzion and Razor, Proof Research MTR, Seekins Havak, Stiller, Terminus, and Zermatt Origin, TLS and RimX
  • Straight barrel contours up to 1.25" using the included NV bridge spacers
  • ARCALOCK and RRS Lock tripod and bipod clamps

Will not work with

  • Remington 700 long action and medium action receivers
  • Left-hand actions
  • Barrels under 15" long, or muzzles over 1.1" in diameter, with the NV bridge fitted
  • Barrels over 1.25" straight contour

Check the barrel before you order. With the NV bridge fitted, the muzzle must be under 1.1" and the barrel at least 15" long to clear the end of the bridge. Barrels between 1.1" and 1.25" use the included spacer kit, which lifts the bridge out of line with the scope base. MDT does not recommend that setup for night vision or thermal use, and rings taller than 1.5" may be needed to clear it.

Detail

Fitting it and the fine print

Which scope base and rings do I need?

MDT specifies a 20 MOA scope base or integrated rail so the NV bridge and the optic sit on the same plane, with rings of at least 1.5" so the objective clears the bridge. If you fit the NV bridge spacers for a barrel between 1.1" and 1.25", the bridge sits higher and is no longer in line with the base: plan on taller rings (MDT suggests 1.700" or more) or a scope with a smaller objective, and do not count on it for night vision or thermal alignment.

Does it fit my action?

The inlet is cut for a right-hand Remington 700 short action. MDT publishes a list of more than 100 compatible short actions, from factory Remington 700 variants through Bergara, Bighorn, Christensen Arms, Curtis Custom, Defiance, Impact Precision, Kelbly, Lone Peak, Proof Research, Seekins, Stiller, Terminus, Zermatt and others; the fitment lists above carry the common ones. Long actions, medium actions and left-hand actions are not on the list. Magazine fit is set with the four included magwell dowels and the adjustable, lockable latch.

What torque do the screws take?

  • Action screws: 65 in-lb, both front and rear (titanium 1/4-28, 3/16" hex).
  • NV bridge screws: 30 in-lb (10-32, T25).
  • Forend screws: 15 in-lb (6-32, T10).
  • Folder tension: 30 to 35 in-lb on the 1/4-28 button head, 65 in-lb maximum, or set to preference.
  • Cheek riser and LOP screws: 20 in-lb.
  • Grip screws: 35 in-lb.

These are MDT's published hardware values for the DRT.
