Overview
A .257 Sendero carbon fiber blank, ready for your gunsmith to chamber
This Proof Research .257 Sendero blank is a carbon fiber wrapped 416R stainless barrel, sold unchambered and unthreaded for your gunsmith to finish. Choose a 22", 24" or 26" finish length and a 1:7.5 or 1:10 twist. Proof recommends the Sendero contour where precision and suppressor use matter more than the last few ounces.
Up to 64% lighter than steel
Proof rates a carbon fiber Sendero at up to 64% lighter than a steel barrel of the same contour. The 22" 1:7.5 blank weighs 3 lb 0 oz, the 24" 1:7.5 weighs 3 lb 2 oz and the 26" 1:7.5 weighs 3 lb 4 oz.
1.200" shank, 2.50" long
The shank runs 1.200" in diameter for 2.50" from the breech, then tapers to 1.0625" at 5.50" and 1.030" at 10". Those are the numbers to check against your stock's barrel channel.
Two twists for the .257 bore
1:7.5 and 1:10. Proof's rule is that a faster twist (lower number) stabilizes heavier, longer bullets. Check the bullet maker's twist recommendation before you order.
Cut rifled 416R core
Proof starts with a match-grade 416R stainless blank, cut rifled with a single-point tool and lead lapped, turns it down, then wraps it in aerospace-grade carbon fiber with a resin from its own composites division. The wrap moves heat along and through the barrel wall, and Proof claims no point-of-impact shift during high-volume fire.
Steel at both ends
The 2.50" breech section and the last .800" at the muzzle stay solid stainless, so there is steel to thread for the action and for a muzzle device. Extra stock beyond the finish length is left on for the gunsmith to remove.
Limited lifetime warranty
Proof warrants the barrel against defects in material and workmanship for the original owner. The warranty card must be on file with Proof within 30 days of delivery.

What ships
Fitment
Will it work with your build?
Works with
- Any bolt action once the shank is threaded to the action's tenon
- Rem 700 footprint and most modern short actions
- Cartridges: .25-06 Rem, .257 Roberts, .257 Weatherby and similar .257 cartridges
Will not work with
- Actions that cannot accept a 1.200" diameter shank
- Cartridges larger than the .257 bore (use a .264 or .30 cal blank instead)
Your gunsmith must thread, chamber and crown the blank. The muzzle section and the extra stock at the breech are provided for the gunsmith to remove and work with. Rifle barrels ship for a flat $14.95 per order, regardless of quantity, and do not qualify for free shipping due to their size and handling requirements.
Detail
Fitting it and the fine print
Which twist should I order?
Proof's principle is that a faster twist (lower number) stabilizes heavier, longer bullets. The 1:7.5 is the standard choice for the .257 and the 1:10 is a slower twist for lighter bullets. Before you finalize your order, check the bullet maker's twist recommendation for the specific rounds you plan to shoot.
What does the gunsmith do with it?
The blank arrives unthreaded and unchambered. Your gunsmith will thread the breech for your action's tenon, chamber it to your chosen cartridge, crown the muzzle, and remove the extra stock we provide at the muzzle and breech. The blank is already rifled, so the gunsmith is finishing, not boring.
Will it fit my stock's barrel channel?
Measure the diameter of your barrel channel at 10" from the breech face. The blank tapers to 1.030" at 10", so if your channel is at least that wide at that point, it should fit. The shank stays 1.200" in diameter for the first 2.50", so check your action's shank diameter too. Bring those numbers to your gunsmith.
How much accuracy should I expect?
Proof Research does not guarantee accuracy for a barrel blank sold alone. The gunsmith's work (chamber alignment, crown finish, how the threads seat into the action) affects the result as much as the barrel. Proof's match-grade core, cut rifling and lead lapping put the barrel in position to deliver, but accuracy is a system.
