Overview

A stiff .338 carbon fiber blank for precision building

The Proof Sendero .338 cal blank is a rifled, contoured, carbon fiber wrapped barrel a gunsmith chambers, threads and fits to your bolt action. Pick it when precision and stiffness matter, you run a suppressor, or you want a chamber Proof does not offer as a pre-fit, wildcats included. It ships rifled and contoured with a 1.25" shank, heavier and stiffer than the Sendero Light. Finish lengths run 24" to 28" with 1:9.4 twist.

Up to 64% lighter

Proof rates its carbon fiber barrels at up to 64% lighter than steel of the same contour. On this blank that is 3 lb 6 oz at 24" and 3 lb 9 oz at 26", by our own spec table.

Sendero taper, 1.25" shank

1.25" for the first 3", 1.113" at 6", 1.073" at 10", then a muzzle of 0.939" (24") down to 0.919" (26") (Proof does not list the 28" muzzle). Heavier and stiffer than Sendero Light while keeping a strong breech.

Three lengths, all 1:9.4 twist

24", 26", or 28" finish length. All leave the factory with the same 1.25" shank and Sendero taper.

Steel where the gunsmith works

The shank and the last 0.625" at the muzzle stay bare stainless under the wrap, so the chamber, tenon threads, crown and any muzzle thread are cut in steel, not composite.

Sendero is the precision choice

Proof's choosing guide points to the Sendero, heavier and stiffer than the Sendero Light, for precision work and suppressor use.

Fitment

Will it work with your build?

Works with

  • Any .338 cartridge: .338 Win Mag, .338 RUM, .338 Lapua, .340 Weatherby and similar
  • Bolt actions, once a gunsmith chambers and fits it
  • Suppressor use, which Proof's guide pairs with the stiffer Sendero

Will not work with

  • Factory barrels: Blank only, requires gunsmith chambering and threading

This is a barrel blank, not a finished barrel. It ships rifled, contoured and unthreaded. A certified gunsmith must chamber it to your cartridge, cut the tenon threads, crown the muzzle, and fit it to your action. Rifle barrels ship flat $14.95 per order, no free shipping.

Detail

Fitting it and the fine print

What is Sendero vs Sendero Light?

Same shank, different taper: the Sendero is heavier and stiffer, and Proof's guide recommends it for precision work and suppressors; the Sendero Light is for builds where weight or stock channel room matters. The Sendero Light .338 blank is listed separately if we stock it.

Will this fit my stock or chassis?

Proof's guide says its contours run larger than factory barrels and that the stock channel should be confirmed; many aftermarket stocks are inletted for the Proof Sendero and some need channel work. The contour measures 1.25" for the first 3", 1.113" at 6" and 1.073" at 10" from the breech face.

What does the gunsmith need to do?

The gunsmith chambers it to your cartridge, cuts the tenon thread, crowns the muzzle and fits it to your action; the shank and the last 0.625" at the muzzle are bare steel, so that work is done in steel. Proof says the job needs special tools and a qualified gunsmith.

What about break-in and maintenance?

Proof's break-in is shoot three, clean, shoot five, clean, with no moly-coated bullets for the first 100 rounds. Proof barrels carry a warranty for defects in material and workmanship to the original owner. Register your warranty card within 30 days of delivery.
