Overview
A 7mm Sendero carbon fiber blank, ready for your gunsmith to chamber
This Proof Research .284 (7mm) Sendero blank is a carbon fiber wrapped 416R stainless barrel, sold unchambered and unthreaded for your gunsmith to finish. Choose a 20", 22", 24" or 26" finish length and a 1:8, 1:8.4 or 1:9 twist. Proof recommends the Sendero contour where precision and suppressor use matter more than the last few ounces.
Up to 64% lighter than steel
Proof rates a carbon fiber Sendero at up to 64% lighter than a steel barrel of the same contour. The 20" blank weighs 2 lb 12 oz, the 24" 3 lb 1 oz and the 26" 3 lb 4 oz.
1.200" shank, 2.50" long
The shank runs 1.200" in diameter for 2.50" from the breech, then tapers to 1.0625" at 5.50" and 1.030" at 10". Those are the numbers to check against your stock's barrel channel.
Three twists for the 7mm bore
1:8, 1:8.4 and 1:9. Proof's rule is that a faster twist (lower number) stabilizes heavier, longer bullets. Check the bullet maker's twist recommendation before you order.
Cut rifled 416R core
Proof starts with a match-grade 416R stainless blank, cut rifled with a single-point tool and lead lapped, turns it down, then wraps it in aerospace-grade carbon fiber with a resin from its own composites division. The wrap moves heat along and through the barrel wall, and Proof claims no point-of-impact shift during high-volume fire.
Steel at both ends
The 2.50" breech section and the last .800" at the muzzle stay solid stainless, so there is steel to thread for the action and for a muzzle device. Extra stock beyond the finish length is left on for the gunsmith to remove.
Limited lifetime warranty
Proof warrants the barrel against defects in material and workmanship for the original owner. The warranty card must be on file with Proof within 30 days of delivery.

Fitment
Will it work with your build?
Works with
- 7mm cartridges such as 7mm Rem Mag, 7mm-08 Rem, 7mm WSM and 7mm RUM, chambered by your gunsmith
- Any bolt action, once the shank is threaded to the action's tenon
- Stocks and chassis with a barrel channel that clears 1.030" at 10" from the breech
- Suppressed rifles: Proof's preferred contour for supporting a can
- Wildcat 7mm chambers (Proof does not guarantee accuracy, velocity or stability for wildcats)
Will not work with
- Drop-in or pre-fit installation: this is a blank, not a finished barrel
- Sporter or Sendero Light barrel channels without inletting: the Sendero is the heavier, stiffer contour, about 2.5 oz more at equal length
This is a barrel blank, not a finished barrel. It ships unchambered, unthreaded and uncrowned, with extra steel at both ends for your gunsmith to remove during fitting. Rifle barrels and barreled actions ship for a flat $14.95 per order and do not qualify for free shipping. Other contours and lengths are available to order.
Detail
Fitting it and the fine print
Which twist rate do I order?
Proof offers the .284 Sendero in 1:8, 1:8.4 and 1:9. Their rule is simple: a faster twist (the lower number) stabilizes heavier, longer bullets, and a slower twist suits lighter conventional bullets. Proof's own advice is to check the bullet manufacturer's twist recommendation for the bullets you plan to shoot. Not every twist comes in every length: 1:8 is offered in 20", 22", 24" and 26"; 1:8.4 in 22", 24" and 26"; 1:9 in 24" and 26" only.
What does my gunsmith get, and what do they still have to do?
The blank arrives drilled, rifled, contoured and inspected. Chambering, threading the shank to your action, crowning and fitting are all left to the gunsmith, and Proof says installation needs special tools and a qualified gunsmith. Proof's drawing leaves .100" of extra stock at the breech and a stub at the muzzle to be removed during fitting. The 2.50" breech section and the last .800" at the muzzle are solid stainless, so there is steel for the tenon thread and for a muzzle thread if you want one. Proof also notes the blank can be finished to a standard or a wildcat chamber, but it cannot guarantee accuracy, velocity or stability for a wildcat.
Will it fit my stock's barrel channel?
Measure the channel where it ends. Proof gives the Sendero's diameter at 10" from the breech face as 1.030", because that is a typical distance from the breech to the end of a forearm. Behind that the barrel is 1.0625" at 5.50" and a full 1.200" over the 2.50" shank. A stock inletted for a sporter or Sendero Light contour will need opening up; Proof puts the Sendero at about 2.5 oz heavier than a Sendero Light at the same length. Other contours are available to order.
How much does barrel length change, and do I need to break it in?
Proof's guide figures roughly 25 fps of velocity per inch of barrel on average, so a 26" barrel runs about 100 fps faster than a 22" one. Weight goes up 3 oz from 20" to 22", 2 oz from 22" to 24" and 3 oz from 24" to 26" in 1:8 twist. On break-in, Proof says very little is needed because the bore is lapped at the factory. The manual's procedure is three shots and clean, three more and clean, then five and clean, with no moly-coated bullets until at least 100 rounds of standard copper-jacketed ammunition have been fired.
