Overview

Zero creep Rem 700 trigger, adjustable from 1.0 to 3.5 lb

The TriggerTech Special is a drop-in single stage trigger for the Remington 700, adjustable from 1.0 to 3.5 lb with a zero creep break. It mounts on the factory trigger pins, comes with its own safety, and is sold with or without a bolt release so it suits factory Remington actions and Rem 700 clones alike. Order it in stainless or PVD black, curved or flat lever, right or left hand.

1.0 to 3.5 lb, set from outside

Pull weight is adjusted with the supplied 5/64" Allen wrench at a set screw on the bottom of the housing, in steps of about 1 oz. Clockwise adds weight. It ships set near the middle of the range.

Zero creep, under .015" overtravel

TriggerTech's Zero Creep Technology (sold earlier as Frictionless Release Technology) does not rely on coating, polishing or lubricating the engagement surfaces. That is the manufacturer's reason the break stays consistent shot to shot and after thousands of rounds.

7075 housing, 440C internals

The housing is anodized 7075 aluminum and the key components are hardened 440C stainless. The PVD black option adds a physical vapor deposition coating to the external stainless parts.

16 configurations

Stainless or black, curved or flat lever, right or left hand, with or without bolt release. Choose the hand that matches the action and the bolt release option that matches the receiver.

Lifetime warranty, 30 day feel guarantee

TriggerTech covers manufacturing defects for the life of the product and handles claims directly. If the zero creep break is not for you, the original purchaser can return an undamaged trigger to TriggerTech within 30 days.

Fitment

Will it work with your build?

Works with

  • Factory Remington 700 actions: order With Bolt Release
  • Remington 700 footprint clone actions with the bolt release in the receiver: order NO Bolt Release
  • Right hand and left hand actions: pick the Hand option that matches the rifle

Will not work with

  • Remington Model 7 (TriggerTech makes a separate Model 7 Special)

Read this before ordering. The safety and bolt release from your existing trigger do not transfer to this one. A factory Remington 700 needs the With Bolt Release version, and the release tab is fitted to the receiver's bolt catch by bending it gently with narrow pliers until it sits in the V. If your action has its own bolt release in the receiver, order NO Bolt Release. Pull weights are approximate and vary between actions; an overweight firing pin spring can push the pull above 3.5 lb.

Detail

Fitting it and the fine print

Which bolt release option do I order?

With Bolt Release is for a factory Remington 700, where the bolt release lever lives on the trigger and works the bolt catch in the receiver. NO Bolt Release is for Rem 700 clone actions that carry their own release on the receiver; TriggerTech labels its no-release units for cloned actions only. If your receiver has its own bolt release lever, order NO Bolt Release. This listing is the standard side-safety Special; TriggerTech also makes a separate bottom-safety version for cloned actions that need one, which is a different product.

How do I adjust the pull weight?

With the rifle unloaded, put the supplied 5/64" Allen wrench into the set screw on the bottom of the trigger. Clockwise increases pull weight, counter-clockwise reduces it, in clicks. Keep at least three clicks engaged so the screw cannot fall out, and repeat the safety checks in the manual before firing live ammunition. TriggerTech recommends running the trigger at or above the factory setting until you have some time on it.

Why does my pull weight measure outside 1.0 to 3.5 lb?

Pull weight on a Remington 700 trigger is affected by the firing pin spring. An overweight or aftermarket heavy spring can push the measured pull above the advertised range, and TriggerTech notes that pull weight varies between actions. A gradual change of up to 6 oz or 15 percent as the parts wear in is normal; a sudden change is not, and the trigger should come out of service and go to TriggerTech.

Does it need oil, and what can damage it?

No oil. The trigger is designed to run dry, and TriggerTech asks that gun oil and cleaning products be kept away from it; if it is contaminated, flush it with lighter fluid and blow it out with compressed air rather than opening the housing. Two things TriggerTech names as damaging: a pierced primer or overpressure event, and closing the bolt on an untimed action, which hammers the cocking piece into the sear. Dry cycling an untimed action wears it faster than live rounds do.
