Overview

Two port brake for prone long range shooting

The Hawkins Precision 2 Port Muzzle Brake (Hawkins' Tank Brake) is a 416 stainless steel brake built for long range shooting from the prone position. Hawkins designed it to reduce recoil and muzzle rise without stirring up dust, so your view stays open for the next shot. It ships un-bored and is drilled to your caliber by a gunsmith.

Two ports

Hawkins designed the two port pattern to cut recoil and muzzle rise without throwing up dust from the prone position. Our record carries Hawkins' claim that the Tank Brake reduces felt recoil by more than half.

Three sizes, two thread pitches

.750 inch outside diameter in 1/2-28, and .875 inch or 1 inch outside diameter in 5/8-24. Order the outside diameter and thread that match your barrel.

416 stainless steel

Machined from 416 stainless steel.

Not pre-bored

The brake must be drilled to your specific caliber before it is installed and fired. Hawkins says installation should be done by a competent gunsmith.

Fitment

Will it work with your build?

Works with

  • Barrels threaded 1/2-28 (.750" OD brake)
  • Barrels threaded 5/8-24 (.875" or 1" OD brake)

Will not work with

  • Any rifle as shipped: it must be bored to caliber first

Not pre-bored. Hawkins ships these brakes un-bored; a competent gunsmith drills the bore to your caliber and installs the brake before it is fired.

Fitting it and the fine print

Can I install it myself?

Hawkins ships the brake without a bore. It has to be drilled to your specific caliber before it is installed and fired, and Hawkins says a competent gunsmith should do the installation.

Which size do I order?

Match the outside diameter and thread to your barrel: .750 inch OD comes in 1/2-28, and .875 inch and 1 inch OD come in 5/8-24. The bore is drilled to your caliber afterwards.
