Overview

All-around hunting scope with 3.5-10x zoom, 30mm tube, and optional Ballistic Stop turret

The Zeiss V3 3.5-10x42 is a second focal plane riflescope with a 42 mm objective and a 30 mm main tube. Zeiss lists at least 90 percent light transmission and 100 MOA of elevation travel. Choose from three reticle options: a traditional Duplex (#6), a modern SHR (#87), or an illuminated SHRi (#87 with red center dot). Turret options include standard capped elevation and windage, or optional external ballistic elevation turrets with Ballistic Stop technology.

3.5x to 10x magnification

Exit pupil runs from 11.7 mm to 4.2 mm and the field of view from 34.17 to 11.82 ft at 100 yards, per Zeiss. In second focal plane the reticle stays the same size across the zoom range.

90% light transmission with Zeiss Bright technology

Zeiss lists fully multi-coated lenses with a hydrophobic protective coating and at least 90 percent light transmission.

30 mm main tube

Requires 30 mm rings. Zeiss lists 100 MOA of elevation and 80 MOA of windage travel, 12.40 inches long, 14.4 oz with capped turrets (15.3 oz with Ballistic Stop, 15.8 oz illuminated).

0.25 MOA per click with 10 MOA per rotation

Metal-on-metal construction, repeatable and tactile turret adjustments, with optimized engravings for fast field corrections. Standard capped elevation and windage turrets; optional external ballistic elevation turret with Ballistic Stop.

Three reticle options

Choose the traditional Duplex (#6), the modern SHR (#87), or the SHRi (#87) with illuminated red center dot at 10 adjustable intensity levels, rheostat controlled, with auto-off after 3 hours.

Fixed parallax at 150 yards

Parallax is fixed at 150 yards, with a 3.4 inch eye relief and a -3 to +2.5 dpt diopter range, per Zeiss.

Fitment

Will it work with your build?

Works with

  • 30 mm scope rings and mounts

Will not work with

  • 1-inch (25.4 mm) scope rings or mounts

Requires 30 mm rings. The V3 3.5-10x42 has a 30 mm main tube, so 1 inch rings will not fit; Zeiss lists the objective tube at 48 mm.

Detail

Fitting it and the fine print

What is the difference between the three reticle options?

The Duplex (#6) is the traditional plex-style reticle, a non-illuminated choice for hunting. The SHR (#87) is a modernized MOA design, also non-illuminated. The SHRi (#87) is the same SHR design with an illuminated red center dot, ten adjustable intensity levels, and rheostat control; the battery is a standard 2032 coin cell with a 3-hour auto-off timeout.

What ring size do I need for the V3 3.5-10x42?

The V3 3.5-10x42 has a 30 mm main tube, so it takes 30 mm rings; 1 inch rings will not fit. Zeiss lists the objective tube at 48 mm, so pick a ring height that clears it over your barrel.

What is Ballistic Stop technology?

Zeiss offers an optional external ballistic elevation turret with Ballistic Stop: a hard stop set at your zero, so after dialing you turn the turret back until it stops and you are at zero.

What parallax setting does this scope have?

Zeiss lists a fixed parallax setting of 150 yards, with a fast-focus eyepiece and a -3 to +2.5 dpt diopter range.
